Amidst a mix of excitement and apprehension students, educators and employees throughout the Carson City School District began the 2023-2024 school year with reassuring and motivational school assemblies, meet-and-greets, orientations and back-to-school nights.

“We want to thank all of those who make the weeks leading up and the first week back to school a special and memorable experience,” said Mr. Andrew Feuling, school superintendent. “That foundational work is so important to begin the year on a trajectory toward success for students and staff.”

Several elementary schools including Empire, Fremont, Fritsch, Mark Twain and Seeliger, participated in Back-to-School nights and open houses. Eagle Valley and Carson Middle schools offered boot camps and sneak peeks while Carson High offered orientations and other welcome events. Additionally, 867 district employees and teachers were cheered on to football field by the Carson High Cheer Team and the Blue Thunder Band for a districtwide assembly where staff were also honored with the CHS NJROTC presentation of the colors and leading the Pledge of Allegiance.

A total of 71 new educators and 46 new employees attended on-boarding trainings in the days leading up to the first day of school, August 14. The numbers were nearly twice the regular attendance of other years.

"It was really encouraging to see how excited our new staff were to be a part of the Carson City School District. Clearly, they have heard this is a special place,” Feuling continued. “It has been a great couple of weeks, culminating in all of these kids walking back into our buildings and setting off on their path. Whether it is seeing engineering students building structures with spaghetti noodles and marshmallows or elementary students starting phonics work in those first days of school, each makes you feel like they are on their way to greater things. That is why we are here."
