Principal's Message

I am so excited for the opportunity to serve here at Empire Elementary! Mrs. Squires and the wonderful team here have created many new and wonderful experiences for our students. As a Governor's Designated STEM school, students are provided with an educational setting that provides hands-on, practical activities that challenge student thinking, and provide opportunities to problem-solve through collaboration with their peers. This setting will provide students with 21st Century skills that will be of high value for tomorrow’s workforce. These skills will prepare them for their future in college, and for their career.

I am fortunate that I have observed children in many school settings, Pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. Based on those observations it has become clear to me that a child’s success begins at a very early age. Many of the behavioral patterns start right here at the elementary level. This is the best time for students to develop habits and acquire skills that will benefit them now and as they move through the K-12 and collegiate systems, and further into life as a productive member of society. Therefore, please do not undervalue the quality of work that is done here. We need your help. Families, please partner with us for the success of your child and our future. When we work together in partnership, there are few challenges that we cannot overcome.

My vision is to maintain a safe place where all people are removed from fear and hate, where people desire to work, a place where children learn and grow. A place that encourages personal growth and the pursuit of knowledge. A place where open communication and dialogue are commonplace, where all people have confidence in their voice. A place where purpose drives us and ownership by all prevails. A place where people are acknowledged for their effort and praised for their work. A place where all people believe they can achieve and will succeed.

As we start our new school year together I am asking that we work together. Please allow your children to regularly attend school and be on time. Communicate with your child’s teacher when you have concerns. Please provide your child time to read and practice math facts. If you have questions about what that might be, or look like, please contact your child’s teacher. The best way for your child to be a strong reader is to read. Practicing math facts will allow your child to think deeper when calculations become challenging.

As we strive to create a safe place for all students, there are three primary behaviors we teach and expect from all students. We expect our students to be safe, responsible, and respectful. What this looks and sounds like will be very different as your child/children become productive students moving up the grades to middle school, high school and college. Our partnership is important and we will work toward creating a positive environment for all.

Thank you in advance for your partnership!
